Healfromzero.com – President Donald Trump said Friday that the United States has secured a far-reaching arrangement with Denmark and Greenland that would give Washington lasting authority over security matters on the Arctic island and restrict military activity by US adversaries.

Trump described the planned deal as a permanent answer to longstanding American concerns involving Greenland, a strategically located territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. In a Truth Social post, he said the agreement would provide the United States with control over security and other needs on the island without requiring American payment.

“The United States of America has entered into an Agreement with The Kingdom of Denmark, and Greenland, that gives the United States permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland, completely addressing ALL of our many U.S. concerns. There will be NO COST to the United States!”

The president referred to the arrangement as an “Infinite Life” Agreement. He also said it would prevent US adversaries from establishing bases, deploying military forces or making sensitive investments in Greenland unless they first receive written approval from the United States.

“Additionally, from now on, no U.S. adversary can EVER have a base in Greenland, have a military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval,” Trump said.

Planned military expansion

Trump said the United States would begin building what he called a large military presence in Greenland. He added that the effort would involve cooperation with Greenland’s population on development and construction projects.

The announcement places renewed attention on the Arctic and North Atlantic, regions whose security importance has grown alongside concerns about military access, investment in critical infrastructure and competition among major powers. Greenland’s geography gives it a central position between North America and Europe, making decisions involving its defense relevant to the broader NATO alliance.

Denmark’s prime minister’s office said the United States, Denmark and Greenland are expected to sign an agreement next week during the United Nations General Assembly. The planned document is expected to focus on strengthened security in the Arctic and North Atlantic Area.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen welcomed the expected deal and presented it as beneficial to all three parties, as well as to NATO and Europe. Her comments emphasized that the agreement would not override the constitutional and political status of the Kingdom of Denmark or Greenland’s ability to determine its own future.

“I am glad that we are about to make a great agreement for Greenland, the Kingdom of Denmark, and the United States,” Frederiksen said.

“[The agreement] recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom and the Greenlandic people’s right to self-determination.”

Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen also described the planned arrangement as one that accounts for Greenland’s role in international cooperation. His remarks underscored the importance of Greenland having its own interests recognized as security policy in the Arctic becomes more prominent.

“The agreement recognizes Greenland’s interests and our place in the international cooperation,” Nielsen said, adding, “It is to the benefit of us all.”

Agreement still faces formal approval steps

While leaders have signaled support for the proposed framework, the final signed deal would still need to move through parliamentary procedures. That process means the announcement is an important political step, but not necessarily the final legal stage of the arrangement.

The distinction matters because Greenland has extensive self-government within the Kingdom of Denmark and maintains a strong interest in decisions affecting its territory, development and future political direction. The statements from Danish and Greenlandic leaders indicate that the planned security framework is intended to operate alongside those existing principles.

Trump has repeatedly argued that Greenland carries major national-security value for the United States. Earlier this year, he frequently pressed the issue of the United States obtaining Greenland, though the subject had received less public attention in recent months.
