Chloe Watson Dransfield, 16, was discovered with life-threatening wounds on Kennerleigh Avenue in Austhorpe, Leeds, at 6am on Saturday. Her family and nearby residents shared that she was stabbed in the back during a confrontation over a boy.
Kayla Smith, 18, and Archie Rycroft, 19, both from Leeds, have been formally charged with murder by West Yorkshire Police. Smith, a self-employed beautician, operates her business, Luxe Aesthetics, from her grandfather’s residence in east Leeds, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Two additional suspects, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, were detained but later released on bail pending further investigation. Family members expressed deep sorrow, with one relative describing Chloe as a vibrant, innocent soul whose life was cut short in a tragic incident.
‘My beautiful princess Chloe. I cannot put into words how I feel that you are not here with me. You are my life, my world, my best friend, and I know that I am yours. I cannot live without you – I need you.’
‘When you walk into any room, it lights up with your bubbly personality. There is so much I could say. There’s a big hole in my heart that can never be filled.’
‘Your two sisters and big brother will always love and miss you to infinity. You will always and forever be in our hearts. Love Mum, Connor, Courtney and Cienna.’
Chloe’s cousin Shantelle Watson shared her grief on GoFundMe, stating: ‘My 16-year-old cousin’s life was sadly taken in tragedy. 16 years young. She didn’t even make it to her 18th – her whole life was taken in a flash over a boy.’ She also highlighted her desire to provide a dignified farewell, emphasizing Chloe’s undeserved fate.
Wayne Mallows, a 64-year-old neighbor, recounted his efforts to save the girl. He was alerted by a dogwalker at 5:50am and performed CPR on the pavement near his home. ‘I asked if they’d rung an ambulance and then noticed a phone on the ground, connected to loudspeaker,’ he explained. ‘Ambulance control were giving him instructions. I took over until help arrived 10 minutes later. She had been stabbed in the back, with significant blood loss. Her eyes were just blank.’
Det. Chief Insp. James Entwistle, leading the probe, said: ‘Our thoughts remain with Chloe’s family during this challenging time. Our officers continue to support them as we piece together the full story of this tragic event. Five individuals arrested on suspicion of murder remain in custody.’
