Authorities provide a timeline of the night Nancy Guthrie disappeared

Timeline of Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance Unveiled

Authorities have released a detailed timeline of the night Nancy Guthrie, mother of “TODAY” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, went missing. This information marks one of the most precise updates from Arizona law enforcement since the 84-year-old was reported missing around noon on Sunday, sparking a widespread search involving both state and federal agencies.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, addressing reporters at a news conference near Tucson, stated that Guthrie had traveled to her daughter’s home for dinner at approximately 5:32 p.m. on Saturday. Her daughter lives in the area, and the Uber driver who transported her was located and interviewed by investigators, though details of the conversation remain undisclosed.

According to the sheriff’s department, Guthrie’s family dropped her off at her house at 9:48 p.m. when the garage door opened. The door closed two minutes later. The timeline then notes that at 1:47 a.m. on Sunday, the doorbell camera at Guthrie’s residence disconnected. At 2:12 a.m., software detected a person on camera, but no video was recorded. Sixteen minutes later, at 2:28 a.m., her pacemaker app showed it had disconnected from her phone.

By Sunday morning, Guthrie had not attended church services, prompting her family to check on her at 11:56 a.m. They placed a 911 call to the sheriff’s department at 12:03 p.m., reporting her missing. Law enforcement arrived shortly after, at 12:15 p.m.

“We’re not there yet,” said Sheriff Chris Nanos, emphasizing that no suspect or person of interest has been identified in the case. He also confirmed that blood found on the porch outside Guthrie’s home tested positive for her DNA.

Ransom notes referencing Guthrie have reportedly been sent to at least three news outlets. However, NBC News has not seen copies of the notes, and no law enforcement agency has confirmed their existence. Heith Janke, FBI Phoenix’s special agent in charge, noted that one of the reported notes included a deadline of 5 p.m. Thursday, with a second deadline set for Monday.

Despite the ransom notes, investigators remain confident that Guthrie is “still out there” and are committed to locating her safely. Daniel Arkin, a senior reporter at NBC News, is covering the developing story. Follow live coverage for further updates.
