Russia strikes Dnipro train station in central Ukraine, killing 14
Drone attack on Dnipro station leaves 14 dead as Ukraine faces renewed strikes
Healfromzero.com – A Russian drone hit the main railway station in Dnipro on Thursday morning, killing 14 people as passengers waited for a train in the central Ukrainian city. Ten others were injured in an attack that again placed civilians at the center of the war’s widening human cost.
The assault came amid a broader wave of Russian strikes on transport and energy-related infrastructure. Ukrainian authorities said at least 19 people, including two 15-year-old girls, were killed across the country during the day.
Images from the Dnipro platform showed bodies lying near the tracks after the blast. Medical staff treating survivors said many patients had shrapnel injuries, while four people required emergency operations.
Attacks extend beyond Dnipro
Elsewhere, two 15-year-old girls were killed in a strike on Chernihiv, in northern Ukraine. A separate drone attack on a residential building in the Poltava region killed three people.
Later on Thursday, Kyiv came under a ballistic missile attack, the city’s mayor said. The nighttime assault followed a warning from President Volodymyr Zelensky that Russia was preparing additional strikes against Ukraine.
An employee at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was also killed by a drone, the International Atomic Energy Agency said. The agency condemned the attack. The plant remains a major source of international concern because military activity around the facility raises the risk of a nuclear safety emergency.
Ukraine has faced a growing strain on its air defenses as Russian attacks increase. Moscow has repeatedly denied deliberately targeting civilians, despite attacks that have struck homes, public facilities and transportation hubs throughout the conflict.
Ceasefire in Oleshky remains limited
The Dnipro attack occurred while a temporary ceasefire was in effect in the southern Kherson region around the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky. The pause, observed since Tuesday, was brokered by first lady Melania Trump to allow humanitarian assistance to reach residents facing shortages of electricity, food and water.
Russia has emphasized that the arrangement covers only the Oleshky area, not the rest of Ukraine. Both sides have complied with the ceasefire terms, which are scheduled to remain active until 10:59 p.m. local time on November 1.
Zelensky said the attacks elsewhere in the country underscored Moscow’s intentions.
“These are deliberate strikes against civilians, brazen in their cruelty, and the Russians are carrying them out right as the humanitarian operation in Oleshky is unfolding,”
He urged Ukraine’s international partners to increase pressure on Russia, arguing that the latest attacks demonstrated that the Kremlin wanted the war to continue.
“Russia’s signals are clear – they want the war to continue,”
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed support for Ukraine after the Dnipro strike, describing the attack as both senseless and indiscriminate.
“Together with our allies, we must do everything in our power to mount pressure on the aggressor,”
Sanctions debate intensifies
The attacks have renewed attention on the debate over sanctions against Russia. Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump waived several sanctions connected to Russian fossil fuel sales, a move that angered Kyiv. Ukrainian officials have long pressed for tighter restrictions on Russian energy exports, viewing them as a central source of revenue for Moscow’s war effort.
Russian state media said Wednesday that Washington and the Kremlin were discussing the possible removal of sanctions imposed on Russia’s multibillion-dollar sovereign wealth fund. Those measures were introduced by the Biden administration after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine nearly five years ago.
Vladyslav Vlasiuk, Ukraine’s presidential commissioner for sanctions policy, rejected the idea that restrictions should be eased before Moscow takes meaningful steps.
“You cannot lift sanctions and then expect the Russians to take any action. Constructive actions must come first, and then everything else.”
Zelensky also said Ukrainian forces carried out missile strikes against two Russian fighter-bomber aircraft and an Iskander ballistic missile launcher. Moscow had not commented on that claim.
A railway station becomes another civilian target
Rail hubs are essential to everyday movement in Ukraine, including evacuation routes, family travel, humanitarian deliveries and the transport of supplies between cities. The strike on Dnipro’s main station turned a place of departure into the scene of one of the day’s deadliest attacks.
For residents across Ukraine, the violence illustrates the limits of a narrowly defined humanitarian pause. While aid operations continue around Oleshky, civilians in cities far beyond the ceasefire zone remain vulnerable to drones and missiles. The deaths in Dnipro, Chernihiv and Poltava show how quickly the consequences of the war can spread across regions, even as diplomatic efforts seek to create small openings for relief.
