Ready to Join Metro’s Lifeline Challenge? Essential Information for Participants

This summer, picture yourself traversing the scenic Cotswold landscape, feeling the breeze against your skin and warmth of the sun, while knowing every stride contributes to supporting individuals affected by dementia.

What to Expect from the Challenge

For those new to our inspiring Lifeline initiatives, it’s natural to have questions. That’s why we’ve compiled a comprehensive guide to ensure you’re well-equipped, informed, and ready to take part in our annual fundraising event for Alzheimer’s Society.

The challenge will unfold on Saturday, June 13, 2026, beginning at the Royal Agricultural University in Circencester. This gathering will unite over 2,000 participants, creating a vibrant community of walkers sharing a common cause.

Team Lifeline is a diverse group. Some members are Metro staff, while others are readers or supporters connected to Alzheimer’s Society. Regardless of your background, you’ll find camaraderie among participants of all ages and fitness levels. Whether you choose to walk solo or with companions, the event is designed to accommodate your preferred style.

Fundraising and Registration Details

Participants must decide on their distance: 25km, 50km, or 100km (either continuous or split over two days). Each distance has a corresponding fundraising goal—£150 for 25km, £225 for 50km, and £330 for 100km. You’ll also have the option to raise more than the minimum target.

Registration is open to the public, with a modest fee of £15. The fundraiser’s success depends on your confidence in reaching the set targets. Remember, at least 50% of your sponsorship should be secured three weeks before the event, while the remaining amount—along with any additional contributions—can be collected within four weeks of finishing.

“At Metro we’re a big fan of bake sales and pub quizzes!”

For those aiming to raise more, the higher amount begins at £15, while the lower target starts at £46. These figures reflect the flexibility of the challenge, allowing you to align your efforts with your personal goals and resources.

Support and Preparation Resources

Throughout your journey, you’ll receive regular updates and guidance. Metro’s Lifeline initiative maintains a dedicated JustGiving page, which will be sent to you immediately upon signing up. This ensures all donations are centralized and easily trackable.

As the event approaches, you’ll be invited to join our WhatsApp group to stay informed about safety protocols and daily schedules. Additionally, a Facebook group serves as a hub for exchanging tips, training plans, and sharing progress photos. These platforms are designed to keep you motivated and on track.

Participants can expect email updates from Alzheimer’s Society and event organizers Action Challenge. Key details like start times, route specifics, and bib numbers will be shared four weeks prior, with e-tickets arriving 10–14 days before the event. Action Challenge also provides a FAQ section on the sign-up page for any event-related inquiries.

With this structure, you’re not only setting a personal challenge but also playing a crucial role in funding vital research and support for dementia care. Every mile and every pound raised makes a tangible impact for those living with the condition.
