US President Donald Trump escalated tensions with Iran by posting a fiery message on his social media platform, warning of catastrophic consequences if the Strait of Hormuz remained closed past his Tuesday deadline. The threat included the destruction of Iran’s power plants and bridges, a stark escalation from previous warnings. Despite the intensity of the message, Trump hinted at a potential resolution, stating there was a “good chance” a deal could be reached with Tehran.
Rescue operation fuels new confrontation
The ultimatum followed the successful retrieval of a second US serviceman from a downed F15 jet. The pilot had been recovered earlier, but the second crew member required a daring rescue deep within Iranian territory. Both the US and Iran mobilized resources to locate the missing personnel in a rugged southwestern region, intensifying the already volatile standoff.
Iran’s response was sharp and dismissive, labeling Trump’s warning as “helpless, nervous, and stupid.” The country’s military command, represented by General Ali Abdollahi Aliabadi, added that the threat would only lead to “the gates of hell opening” for the US leader.

Meanwhile, Israel escalated its own campaign against Iranian infrastructure, targeting a petrochemical site on Saturday. Defence officials confirmed the country was awaiting US approval to strike additional energy facilities in the coming days. On Sunday, US-Israeli strikes damaged the Qasem Soleimani international airport in southwestern Iran, compounding the conflict.
Iran’s retaliation has been relentless, with drones and missiles launched at both Israel and US Gulf allies. A residential building in Haifa was hit directly by a ballistic missile, injuring four individuals. In Abu Dhabi, falling debris from an Iranian missile caused fires at a Borouge petrochemical plant. Kuwait reported severe damage to oil facilities from Iranian drone strikes, while Bahrain faced attacks on industrial and fuel infrastructure.
