Third person dies after Austin bar shooting

Third Victim Identified in Austin Bar Shooting

Austin authorities announced Monday night that a third individual injured during an early Sunday bar shooting in Texas has succumbed to their wounds. Jorge Pederson, 30, was among the casualties at Sixth Street’s beer garden, where the incident unfolded just outside a bustling downtown venue. Police confirmed the deaths of Pederson, along with Ryder Harrington and Savitha Shan, while over a dozen others were treated for injuries.

The suspect, 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, was fatally shot by officers shortly after the attack. Diagne, a Senegalese national and U.S. citizen, lived in Pflugerville, Texas, according to law enforcement sources. At the time of the shooting, he wore a sweatshirt with “Property of Allah” and an Iranian-themed shirt beneath. Officials noted he had no known ties to the state and acted alone, though the motive remains under investigation.

Victim Details and Family Reactions

Ryder Harrington, 19, was identified as a Texas Tech University student by his siblings and a local politician. His brother, Reed Harrington, shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, describing Ryder as “the best mix of all the Harrington crew.” He expressed grief over the loss, stating, “It is unfair, to say the least, that my little brother was only given 19 years on this earth.” Reed also reflected on Ryder’s legacy, saying, “I don’t think life will ever feel normal again. I have no idea what I’m supposed to do, but I know you will always be there to guide me and be my mentor.”

“Watching the man he had become, and seeing all the lives he touched, leaves me certain that this world was robbed of a great future.”

Reagan Harrington, his sister, called him her “best friend” in an Instagram post, writing, “I can’t believe you aren’t with me right now.” She added, “Nothing would be enough to express how special you are to me. I’m not sure how we’re meant to work through this — all I can think about is seeing you again.” Ryan Harrington, another sibling, also mourned on Instagram, stating, “I’m gonna miss my brother.”

Fraternity and Community Response

Ryder’s fraternity, Beta Theta Pi, confirmed his death and shared a tribute highlighting his vibrant personality. “From the moment he joined our brotherhood, he brought a light that was impossible to ignore,” the chapter’s post said. “Ryder had a rare ability to truly enjoy life, make people laugh, and turn ordinary days into unforgettable memories.” The group plans a candlelight vigil on Monday at 8 p.m. and has launched a GoFundMe to aid his family.

State House Speaker Dustin Burrows, who shared news of the tragedy on X, noted Ryder was the brother-in-law of a team member. “Ryder was exactly the kind of young man who made a difference without even trying — full of life, loyal, and proud to represent Texas,” Burrows wrote. He expressed hope for the family’s healing, stating, “Everyone who loved Ryder — the number appears to be countless.”

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis confirmed that one of the three critically injured victims would be removed from life support later Monday. The shooting, which occurred early Sunday outside Buford’s beer garden, left three people in severe condition, as reported by Robert Luckritz, head of county emergency medical services.
