‘My daughter, 14, was groomed after meeting man on Roblox’

My Daughter, 14, Was Groomed After Meeting Man on Roblox

The Grooming Process

A parent from Greater Manchester shared her distress after learning that her 14-year-old daughter had been manipulated into sharing explicit content with a man she met on Roblox. The teenager initially connected with Carlo Tritta, then 18, in September 2024. Over time, Tritta convinced her to believe they were in a romantic relationship, eventually leading to the exchange of intimate images.

Discovery of the Abuse

Upon finding a message on her daughter’s phone, the mother realized the severity of the situation. “I said ‘Oh, who’s that?’ and she was crying, begging me not to look at her phone,” she recounted. After viewing the content, she described feeling “shocked, bewildered, and really angry.” The images and videos revealed a disturbing pattern, leaving her daughter emotionally distressed and struggling with sleep.

Roblox’s Safeguards

Roblox, a global gaming platform hosting 40 million user-generated experiences, acknowledged the incident. A spokesperson expressed sadness, stating the company is “committed to building safeguards to prevent such harm.” They highlighted age verification systems designed to restrict communication to users of similar ages and those already known. However, the mother argued these measures were insufficient, emphasizing the need for stricter protections.

The Offender’s Actions

Carlo Tritta, 19, from Eastleigh, Hampshire, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison. He admitted to creating child pornography, engaging in sexual conversations, and forcing the victim to view explicit content. Additionally, he was convicted of intimidating witnesses and damaging property. The abuse unfolded after Tritta convinced the victim to move their chats to private messaging apps, where he gained access to her personal details and controlled her online interactions.

A Violent Incursion

Tritta breached his bail conditions by traveling 200 miles from Hampshire to the victim’s home. He disabled the doorbell camera and entered the house, creating a tense moment as the mother and daughter sat nearby. “He was just at my kitchen door talking about nightmares while we wrote Christmas cards and watched TV,” she said. Tritta also sent the victim cards urging her to oppose the prosecution and report her family to authorities.

Call for Safer Platforms

The mother warned other parents about the risks of Roblox, stressing that it should remain a space for children. “It’s a kids’ game, but adults are using it to groom them,” she said. She urged platforms and social media to do more to safeguard young users. “This shouldn’t be possible,” she added, expressing hope that lessons would be learned from the case.
