Man who threw girlfriend from tower block jailed

Man Jailed for Throwing Girlfriend from Tower Block

A 22-year-old man from Solihull has received a five-year prison sentence after hurling his girlfriend from the fourth floor of a tower block. Jordan Herring was convicted of causing serious harm following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court. This marks his second conviction involving the same woman, as he had already been found guilty of coercive and controlling behavior in a prior case.

Incident Details

In November 2022, the 18-year-old victim, Bobbie Goodman, fell from Herring’s mother’s flat at Merton House in Chelmsley Wood. Emergency services were called over an hour after the incident, as described by police. She sustained a collapsed lung and multiple fractures, including those to her pelvis, spine, and ribs. The injuries left her bedridden for a month and reliant on a wheelchair for several weeks.

“It was very dehumanising,” Goodman shared with the BBC. She recounted being unable to move, walk, or perform basic tasks like washing herself. “I really thought I might never walk again,” she added, expressing deep frustration. “I have a lot of hatred for this man. He’s ruined my life in so many ways. He’s made me not want to trust another man ever again. But I hope someday, I will.”

Mother’s Distress

Kerrie-Anne Grogan, Herring’s mother, called emergency services in a state of emotional turmoil. Her 999 call revealed her fear that her son might harm Bobbie further. “I couldn’t call the ambulance… I should’ve done it ages ago but he’s my son,” she said. “I’m scared he’s gonna get a knife and kill her.”

Relationship Context

During the trial, Herring described the relationship as “toxic,” claiming the pair had argued that night over accusations of infidelity. The court heard how his actions led to the traumatic fall, which left the teenager with life-altering injuries. Officers praised Bobbie for her courage in recounting the abuse she endured, noting ongoing support for her recovery.

Herring, residing at Lark Meadow Drive, was sentenced on Monday for both wounding and coercive behavior charges. The court’s decision underscores the severity of his actions and the lasting impact on the victim’s life.
