Guthrie family thanks Tucson, asks people to not forget mother’s case

A heartfelt plea from the family

On Saturday evening, the Guthrie family extended their heartfelt thanks to the Tucson community where their missing mother Nancy resided before her mysterious disappearance seven weeks ago. They urged residents to keep her case at the forefront of their minds. “We are deeply grateful for the outpouring from neighbors, friends and the people of Tucson. We are all family now,” the family shared with NBC affiliate KVOA in a special report aired that day.

“We want to celebrate her beautiful and courageous life, but we cannot do that until she is brought to a final place or rest,” the family emphasized in their message.

Focus on key dates and evidence

The family has requested the community to review camera footage and revisit their recollections for any details that might aid in locating Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of “TODAY” co-host Savannah Guthrie. They highlighted specific timeframes: January 11, February 1, and January 31 as critical points of interest. Any recordings, written notes, text messages, or observations from these periods could provide crucial leads.

Investigators believe Nancy was the victim of a targeted crime and have identified a masked man from doorbell surveillance as a person of interest. Some of her blood was discovered on the porch, prompting further scrutiny into the events surrounding her last known appearance. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed this theory but has not disclosed the reason for focusing on January 11.

Community support and rewards

Flowers and encouraging notes have been placed at Nancy Guthrie’s home, symbolizing the collective hope for her safe return. The family has pleaded with the public to remain vigilant, stating: “Thank you for continuing to pray without ceasing.” They added, “We miss our mom with every breath and we cannot be in peace until she is home. We cannot grieve; we can only ache and wonder. Our focus is solely on finding her and bringing her home.”

In a separate message shared on Instagram early Sunday morning, Savannah Guthrie echoed the family’s sentiment, noting that someone in Southern Arizona might possess information “they do not even realize is significant.” The Guthrie family has also offered a $1 million reward for Nancy’s recovery, matching the FBI’s $50,000 assistance in the search. Police continue to investigate, seeking any clues that could lead to her safe return.
