Coachella kicks off with Sabrina Carpenter and surprise guests
Coachella Commences with Sabrina Carpenter and Unannounced Performers
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival began its annual event with a notable twist on Friday, as pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter took the stage. Among the unexpected participants was Susan Sarandon, who appeared as a mature version of the 26-year-old artist during her performance. The actor’s role involved delivering a monologue, seamlessly integrating into the Hollywood-themed set.

Comedian Will Ferrell and actor Sam Elliott also made appearances, contributing to the cinematic atmosphere. Elliott portrayed a law enforcement figure who lets Carpenter off with a warning, while Ferrell humorously impersonated an electrician later in the show. The festival, held in the California desert, attracts over 100,000 attendees each day across two weekends, according to Indio police.
Weather Disruption Leads to Cancellation
Unforeseen weather conditions disrupted the schedule. Strong winds forced the cancellation of DJ Anyma’s set after Carpenter’s performance. In a statement shared on Instagram, the festival clarified:
“Due to strong wind conditions affecting Anyma’s stage build, he is unable to perform tonight. Coachella and Anyma have made this decision together with your safety as the priority.”
The National Weather Service reported wind gusts up to 25 miles per hour, prompting an air quality advisory for the valley from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning.
While the advisory warns of potential health risks for vulnerable groups, the local air quality management district noted that particle levels remained good to moderate since Thursday noon. Carpenter, making her debut as headliner, transformed the Empire Polo Club stage into a fictional Hollywood Hills setting, dubbing it “Sabrinawood.”
Lineup Details and Future Dates
Friday’s performances featured KATSEYE and Disclosure, while Saturday will see Justin Bieber take the lead. Karol G headlines on Sunday. Additional UK artists, such as Wet Leg and Little Simz, are also scheduled. The festival’s lineup will repeat next weekend, continuing its tradition since 2002.
