Trump says FBI is ‘wasting their time’ if they’re pursuing conspiracy theories in Graham death investigation
Trump Dismisses Conspiracy Theories in Graham Death Probe
President Questions FBI’s Investigation Approach
Trump says FBI is wasting their – President Donald Trump expressed skepticism on Tuesday regarding potential conspiracy theories surrounding Senator Lindsey Graham’s passing, suggesting that federal investigators might be focusing on unnecessary angles. Speaking to reporters, the president characterized the FBI’s efforts as potentially misdirected if they are chasing elaborate theories rather than straightforward explanations. According to four law enforcement officials who shared information with CNN, there is currently no evidence pointing toward unnatural or suspicious circumstances in Graham’s death.
One official explained that local police are performing their standard post-death review procedures, while the FBI has simply made its capabilities available should additional support be needed. When questioned about whether the federal bureau was investigating the senator’s death or if he had received any updates, Trump offered his perspective clearly.
I know there’s all sorts of conspiracy theories going along, and I don’t think the FBI — I think the FBI is wasting their time if they’re doing that.
Medical Findings and Online Speculation
The medical examiner’s preliminary assessment indicates that Graham experienced an aortic dissection, which involves a tear in the major artery and proves life-threatening in the majority of instances. Despite this clear medical explanation, various commentators have proposed more dramatic interpretations online. Far-right activist Laura Loomer highlighted that Graham had recently returned from Ukraine, where he advocated for sanctions against Russia, before his death occurred on Saturday.
Republican Senator John Cornyn requested that a toxicology report be made public to eliminate any possibility of foul play. Meanwhile, some within law enforcement circles believed that FBI Director Kash Patel inadvertently intensified speculation with his enigmatic X post following Graham’s death. The director wrote that the bureau was “assisting local authorities and has made every necessary resource available.”
Public confusion grew further when FBI agents were observed entering Graham’s Washington, DC residence on Monday. This occurred despite earlier indications from sources that no signs of wrongdoing were present. Neither Patel nor the FBI has provided a public explanation for the director’s statement. According to CNN sources, Patel’s message was intended to acknowledge the routine review process that law enforcement follows after a legislator’s death.
Witness Accounts Support Natural Causes
Most publicly available information from individuals who interacted with Graham in the hours before his passing suggests natural causes. Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville shared that one of his staff members was present with Graham’s scheduler on Saturday evening when the South Carolina Republican called to report chest pains. These symptoms could indicate an aortic dissection, and Graham requested that emergency services be contacted.
Lindsey called, called basically, said, ‘Listen, I’m having chest pains. You know, I need to do something,’
Tuberville relayed this account to reporters on Monday. CNN had previously reported that emergency responders were sent to a DC address for Graham around 8:30 pm ET based on a chest pain report, according to Broadcastify audio. Multiple individuals noted that Graham appeared normal during their conversations before his death.
Trump mentioned that he spoke with Graham by telephone prior to the senator’s passing. Graham indicated he felt tired from travel but otherwise seemed well. Senator Katie Britt told CNN she also conversed with Graham over the weekend, after her conversation with Trump, and found him enthusiastic about securing White House support for the Russian sanctions legislation. She reported sensing nothing unusual.
Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal provided a comparable description to CNN. “He sounded absolutely fine,” Blumenthal stated, noting he had spoken with Graham on both Friday and Saturday. “In fact, better than fine.”
Trump’s Final Assessment
On Tuesday, Trump explained that an aortic tear presents significant detection challenges and mentioned that White House physicians had briefed him on the diagnosis. “When that bursts, which it did — it burst — there’s not much, so I don’t see a lot of evil there,” he remarked. The president also expressed personal regret regarding his friend’s health habits, adding, “I wish he took better care of himself.”
