Four Teens Arrested in Connection with Fatal Stabbing of 16-Year-Old Boy

A 16-year-old boy died in hospital following a stabbing incident that occurred near the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough. Cambridgeshire Police received the call around 7:00 PM BST on Sunday, reporting a teenager had been attacked in Riseholme. The school nearby, St John’s Church School, temporarily closed as a “serious incident” unfolded close to its premises.

Arrests and Suspicions

Authorities have detained four teenagers, with two charged over murder and two suspected of aiding the offender. A 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man from Peterborough are among those in custody. Additionally, a 16-year-old girl, also from the city, faces suspicion of possessing a bladed object. The school confirmed via email that police were investigating the area adjacent to its building, prompting the closure.

“This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man,” said Det Ch Insp Richard Stott of the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit. “We are in contact with his family and keeping them updated. While we understand the death will be concerning for local people, we do not believe this was a random attack.”

Scene and Community Response

A large police presence was visible near the Ortongate Shopping Centre on Sunday night, with a cordon remaining near the Riseholme entrance on Monday. The shopping centre operates as usual, though its rear car park is closed. Flowers have been placed by the public at the cordoned-off area, reflecting the community’s reaction to the event.

The school stated it would “continue to monitor the situation” and provide updates on reopening to parents and carers. Residents are encouraged to share information or CCTV footage with police, as they investigate further into the targeted attack.

Current Status

All arrested individuals remain in police custody. The area around the shopping centre remains under a significant police presence for the coming days, with the cordon likely to stay in place.

Anyone with details or camera footage related to the incident is urged to reach out to authorities for assistance.
