Britney Spears goes into rehab after driving under the influence arrest

Britney Spears has chosen to enter a rehabilitation program voluntarily, following a DUI arrest that occurred a month prior. Her representative shared this update with several US media outlets on Sunday, confirming her decision to seek treatment. The incident, which took place on 4 March, involved the pop icon driving her BMW “erratically at a high rate of speed” on a motorway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Upon being pulled over, Spears showed signs of impairment and underwent a series of field sobriety tests. Her team described the situation as “completely inexcusable” and emphasized their commitment to creating a “much-needed plan” to help her achieve long-term stability. This step comes three weeks before she is scheduled to appear in court in California to address the DUI charge.

“Britney is committed to taking the necessary steps to follow the law and aims for this to be the initial move toward long-awaited personal transformation,” said her representative. “Her sons will be accompanying her, and her family is working on a much-needed strategy to support her recovery and overall well-being.”

The singer, known for hits such as “Baby One More Time,” “Toxic,” “Everytime,” “Gimme More,” “Womanizer,” and “Stronger,” has long been a dominant figure in pop music. For 13 years until 2021, she was under a conservatorship, a legal arrangement that placed her finances and personal life in her father’s control. He claimed the measure was essential due to her “in shambles” state and the distress she faced in multiple aspects of her life.

Spears has credited the conservatorship with helping her rebuild stability. “Through the conservatorship, Britney has been able to return to a path toward stability in all of these phases of her life. The mission has been successful, and it is now time for her to re-take control of her life,” her representative stated.
