Two in hospital after bus crashes down embankment on A9
Two in Hospital Following A9 Bus Collision
A bus overturned on the A9 near Aviemore, prompting an urgent emergency operation involving multiple services. The incident occurred shortly after 9:40 on Sunday when the vehicle left the road close to Granish Junction. Two passengers were hospitalized as a result, though the severity of their injuries was not disclosed.
Details of the Accident
The bus, an electric model operated by Ember, was en route from Inverness to Edinburgh. The A9 was temporarily closed for two hours but has since reopened. On-site images revealed the large turquoise bus partially lodged on a grassy embankment, with emergency teams working to assist.
“Just as we were approaching the junction, we had to turn back,” George Rennie explained. The driver received a directive to reverse, and shortly after, passengers who were uninjured were invited to join the bus to avoid further delays. Around nine individuals boarded, most suffering minor injuries like cuts and bruises from the impact.”
Rennie, traveling from Glasgow to Inverness on another Ember service, described how the accident unfolded. “The coach tilted while navigating the junction, and we didn’t realize anything was wrong until a loud crash echoed through the area,” he added. Passengers noted that only half of them wore seatbelts, with some sustaining injuries from the sudden movement.
“One person was thrown to the floor, and another hit their face on the seat, causing a lip injury,” Rennie said. “Others recounted how they were caught off guard by the collision, seeing the front window shatter and several individuals colliding with seats.”
Ember confirmed the involvement of one of their vehicles in a single-vehicle accident on April 12. A company representative thanked the emergency services for their prompt response and stated that investigations into the incident are being fully supported by the police.
