NYPD Officer Dies During Medical Episode in Kuwait Amid Iran Conflict

A New York City police officer has passed away during his deployment to Kuwait as part of the ongoing conflict with Iran, confirmed by city and state authorities. Sorffly Davius succumbed to his injuries at Camp Buehring, the location of his assignment, according to Governor Kathy Hochul. She honored Davius as a “true Citizen Soldier” and a committed family man, emphasizing his dedication to service. The NYPD shared details about his military background, noting he served in the Army National Guard’s 42nd Infantry Division and attained the rank of major before joining the department in 2014, stationed at the 79th Precinct.

Legacy of Service and Sacrifice

“His life is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by our National Guard members, who balance their roles as citizens, first responders, and soldiers,” Hochul stated, adding that Davius was a decorated veteran who previously served with distinction on Joint Task Force Empire Shield, a security unit protecting New York’s key sites from potential threats.

Officials Pay Tribute to Fallen Officer

Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch expressed their condolences in a statement released Saturday, calling Davius’ career a testament to service to both his country and the city. The duo highlighted his unwavering commitment, stating, “His career was defined by service — to his country and to New York City.”

NBC News has sought comments from the National Guard and U.S. Central Command to further clarify the circumstances of Davius’ death. The joint U.S.-Israeli campaign against Iran has resulted in seven confirmed fatalities among American service members. Six of these occurred in Kuwait, while the seventh was reported Saturday evening, following injuries sustained during a March 1 attack on U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia, as announced by U.S. Central Command on Sunday.
